How Activity Scores Work
We are transparent about how Discope determines search rankings
Scoring logic may be adjusted for optimization
Regularly reviewed for fairness based on user feedback and data analysis.

Improvement Tips:
- Increase daily active members
- Activity across more time slots is better
- Encourage member-to-member interaction
Score Composition
Activity scores are based on four metrics with the following weights:
% of members active daily
Active hours per day and distribution consistency
Authentic conversations vs. one-sided messages
Activity concentration among users
How we differ
Discope takes a different approach than traditional server lists.
| Feature | Traditional Method | Discope Method |
|---|---|---|
| Ranking Basis | Number of Bumps | Actual community activity |
| Paid ranking boosts | Possible | Not possible |
| Bot manipulation | Easy | Detected & Filtered |
| Small server treatment | Disadvantaged | Evaluated fairly |
| Chat quality analysis | No | Yes |
| Voice activity evaluation | No | Yes |
| Score transparency | Opaque | Fully public |

Here's a reply!
Messages from different users in the same channel within 20 minutes also count.

Global
Replies across time zones are always counted
How to improve
- Ask questions to encourage discussion
- Build a culture of replying to members
- Provide topics for deep discussion
Many members speaking equally
One user dominating the conversation
How to improve
- Create opportunities for quiet members to speak
- Moderate to prevent specific members from dominating
- Create spaces for different members to shine across various topics
Voice Activity
Voice channel activity is included, but not all voice activity is weighted equally.
| Session Type | Weight | Description |
|---|---|---|
Active Speaking | 1.0 | Participating unmuted or using Push-to-Talk |
Streaming / Screen Sharing | 1.0 | Sharing screen or streaming content |
Active Listening | 0.5 | Muted but active in text chat |
Passive Listening | 0.3 | Muted with no other activity |
AFK / Muted | 0 | Muted or inactive for 6+ hours |
Staying in voice channels alone won't boost scores. Points are earned through active conversation and sharing content.
About Fairness
Q: Are bot messages counted?
No. Bot messages are excluded. Only genuine human community activity is evaluated.
Q: Are larger servers favored?
No. We look at participation *rate*. 30 active members in a 100-member server (30%) scores higher than 50 in a 10,000-member server (0.5%). Small, active communities are fairly evaluated.
Q: Are voice-focused servers disadvantaged?
No. We evaluate both text and voice. Active voice conversations are valued just as highly as text.
Q: How often is the score updated?
Activity scores update every 5 minutes. Peak time patterns update daily, historical data recalculates hourly.
What We Don't Count
- Bot messages
- Spammy short message bursts
- AFK or listen-only voice participation
- Paid boosts
- Manual "bump" command
